Study

Hello, all!

I don't really know where to start with this week..... We've been trying to get back into the swing of things, because last week my companion and I spent a lot of time out of class trying to help a sister in our zone. Spanish is still rough, but kind of coming. We get to skype with native Spanish speakers this week, and I'm so excited! It's amazing to be able to understand when people speak Spanish around me, although I'm still not great at speaking. :)

So this week, my district has been focusing on the truth of the Book of Mormon. The thing is, I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I've prayed to know if it is, and I have received an answer. But more than that, I'm starting to see just how much it helps people. During our discussions this week, I've heard people say over and over again that when they read the Book of Mormon, they feel peace. I know that for myself, when I read it and pray to find an answer, or for help with anything in my life, I receive that help from God. :) I'm so grateful for the Book of Mormon, and for how much Jesus Christ loves all of us. :)

In all honesty, every day is exactly the same here, so they all kind of blend together and I don't remember what happened when. But I do remember that we've been feeling the Spirit so much every day, and learning so much about the gospel. And I know that God is helping us with our Spanish, because I've only been learning it for a month! I still have a long way to go, but I'm so excited to keep working on it!

A Friend in Need

It was a pretty rough week for Katherine so she didn't have time to write a general letter. She spent the majority of the last week helping one of the other missionaries. This sister came to the MTC last Wednesday but she suddenly started having really severe anxiety. As Sister Training Leaders, Katherine and her companion, Sister Luthy, tried to help this missionary to adjust. They missed their classes to help her meet with her leaders and to find the help that she needed.

In the end, the sister decided it would be best to go back home. Katherine was sad to see the sister go but felt good knowing that the sister felt at peace with the decision. She really grew to love this woman as they worked through this experience. Katherine knows that she will have to work extra hard this week to catch up, however, she was grateful that she could be there for a (new) friend in her time of need.

Week of Adventures

Hello, all! Another exciting week here at la CCM (Centro de Capacitacion Misional- Missionary Training Center), and Spanish is getting a lot more understandable! I also figured out pictures....

Anyway, this week, like every week, has been full of class all day, every day. We practice teaching in Spanish a ton, and it's kind of getting easier, but I'm very glad that I have another month to learn. :)

My companion and I have been assigned to be Sister Training Leaders! Basically that means we're in charge of helping all of the Sisters in our zone be happy, and adjust to the MTC, and know what they need to do. We're in charge of orientation and interviewing them and things like that, and we're excited to get started!

Honestly, that's kinda all that happened..... Oh, one of our practice investigators (He was really a teacher) Accepted the invitation to be baptized! Yay! That really strengthened my testimony of prayer a lot. :) Before the lesson, My companion and I prayed to know what to say to him, and we kept feeling like we should invite him to be baptized. And when we did, he accepted, and sounded really excited! Yay!

Temple walks are super fun. :) 

I know that Jesus Christ loves us all, and He wants everyone to come unto Him. :) I love you all, and I hope you have a great week!

La Conferencia

Note from Katherine's Mom (Jennifer): Katherine went to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo last week. She is in an intensive Spanish Language immersion program and she is learning how to serve as a missionary. There are more than 3,000 missionaries at the Provo MTC from around the world learning over 50 languages. I'll try to explain some Missionary vocabulary: Missionaries travel two by two- they are called "Companions". They are organized into "Districts" and "Zones". The people they teach about the Gospel are called "Investigators." She watched our church's Semi-Annual General Conference Broadcast. As a Spanish speaking missionary, her title is "Hermana" (Sister) Jensen. She will be at the MTC for the next 5 weeks.

Katherine's First Letter:

Hello, everyone! I love and miss you all, but the MTC is wonderful! I seriously have the best companion, Hermana Luthy, and she helps me to work hard at Spanish and gospel study. :)

This week has been full of hard work, but the spirit is so strong in the MTC, and I just love being here! General Conference was especially amazing in the MTC. I feel like I got so much out of it, especially in my discussions with my district!

My district has eight people: Hermana Luthy, me, Hermana Wilkins, Hermana Howard, Elder Transtrum, Elder Aguilar, Elder Cook, and Elder Bingham. We're all very different people, but we already get along super well! We say every day that we're a family; brothers and sisters in the Lord. :) I have lots of pictures, but not lots of skill with technology, so that might have to wait....

It's amazing how long each day feels, but how happy we are, too. Learning Spanish is wonderful, but kind of hard... the teachers basically just speak Spanish at us and we try really hard to keep up. :) Oh, but guess what? We've taught our investigator, Victor, twice now, and it actually went pretty well! In our second lesson he agreed to pray and read the Book of Mormon, and he said the closing prayer, and Hermana Luthy and I basically jumped up and down afterwards. :) It was so exciting, and the spirit was so strong!

Honestly, every single day here is just full of study and more study, with Spanish, the gospel, and then more Spanish! I love it, though. :) I've been learning a lot about the Spirit, and how vital it is for teaching and learning about the gospel. I'm so grateful to be here, and so happy to be serving the Lord! I love you all!
